June 1st – so it begins!
We had just finished dinner at Adam’s parents house and were driving home when I was talking to baby, saying: “please arrive a little early so you’re not too big!” Well I should have been careful what I wished for.
We had been lounging watching tv, just about to get ready for bed when all of a sudden my water broke just before 9. Thankfully I had just finished peeing, so no mess to clean up! tmi? We called the maternity ward at the hospital and they told us to make our way to get checked out.
Usually I’m such a good planner and have everything ready, but my hospital bag was only half packed at this point! I wasn’t really counting on baby arriving 2 ½ weeks early. I spent 5 minutes racing around making sure I had everything.
Thanks to the full moon, the maternity ward was packed. I found out I was strep-B positive, so because my water had broken, I had to remain in the hospital on an antibiotic drip. When the doctor finally had a chance to check me, I was already 4 cms! Surprisingly I wasn’t really feeling any contractions yet. The nurse was shocked as she was watching the monitor and said they were quite strong and close together, 2 ½ minutes apart!!!
After about an hour, I started feeling the contractions. I mainly felt pain and tightening in my back, pretty much nothing in my stomach. As long as I sat quietly, eyes closed, and rocking slightly they were easy to get through. I wasn’t too thrilled with the cuppling contractions. I would have a contraction, it would fade slightly, and then a new one would start. So there was no break for a few minutes straight.
